The First Falling

A Pocket Claus

The first in a series I am calling "Pocket Clauses"- this is Sid.  He measures in at 12" tall and stands on a 5 x 5 inch wood base.  The series title refers to the "pocket size" stature of these pieces as well as the big, brimming pockets each will have on his costume.

The details incorporated into this piece make him really extraordinary.  We'll start with his wardrobe...

Sid is wearing a hooded cloak of chenille fabric that has been distressed to look worn and old.  He has a number of hand sewn patches on the cloak and 3 large pockets.   His pants are a plaid micro suede in sepia tones. They are belted with a piece of cord and also have several pockets containing little surprises for his future owner to discover.   A green, waffle knit top keep Sid warm and toasty under his cloak.

Sid also features sculpted mittens and shoes.  His mittens are created to look like knitted material in a wonderful green to match his undershirt.  Despite being made of clay, Sid's boots look like worn and well broken-in leather.  So worn in fact that one of his toes (and a bit of sock fabric) is peaking out from a hole in his boot. Tiny, tied laces complete the ensemble.

Part of my joy in creating any art doll is in "writing" the story they will tell through their pose, expression, and accessories.  Sid's story is of the first snow fall of the season.   German glass glitter, pose, expression, all tell his subtle story and the magic of the moment.

Sid also includes a number of wonderful accessories including a fully jointed mini-teddy bear, wooden train, pocket watch, and one of a kind walking stick.

His head is pose able and his hood can be worn up or down.

The "Pocket Claus" series will include some of my favorite themes for Mr. Claus in this pocket sized version as well as some new ideas

Keep watching for the additional pieces and as always, custom pieces are able to be added to the series- just let me know what you need! (but do so quickly as time is running short for commission guaranteed pre-Christmas 2003!)
