The Seaside Santa Collection

The Beach Santa collection all began with an idea and the piece shown at left... Jonah.  His beach theme and sand covered base became a big hit and beach themed Santas are becoming a specialty of mine.

Jonah represents the most industrious sculpting project I had attempted at the time.  His creation included feet, hands, and even a little peeking belly.  Jonah's fish net robe, sailboat staff,  and deep rich color scheme give him a very elegant look while not losing the whimsy of the Santa story.

Almost causing a family rift... I sold Jonah out from under my wonderful Aunt!  (I made it up to her... see Louie below!)

Jonah was the first sculpted piece I sold and is now in a private collection in California.

The second piece in the Seaside collection was a custom order.  Another first for me!  Tiny camera. scuba gear, and binoculars, miniature bird watching guide books... this piece was made to reflect a bit of the "look" of his soon to be owner as well as his hobbies.    The "portrait" aspect of this piece (making it look similar to an existing person) was a wonderful challenge.

This piece is now in a private collection in Zionsville, Indiana where the recipient is surely still trying to forgive me for aging his face by 30 years...  (but enjoying his Santa none the less!)

This is Uncle Louie-  he was created for my Aunt after I sold Jonah to someone else!  Louie has a great face, treasure chest full of goodies, and the best hat ever!

If he were not going to family I may not have been able to part with this one at all. Just a really fun piece to have around.

Louie now lives in Hilton Head Island, SC.

Benny is the most recent addition to the Collection.  The main challenge of these pieces has now become making each one unique and special with a story all his own.   As you can see from the photos, pieces may utilize some of the same materials and accessories but will always have their own special features and feel.   To set Benny apart, I set him down!  Sitting in the sand and building his little friend, Benny is a leap forward in design and story for me.  He was a joy to create.

In addition to the challenge of making each piece unique, is also tying the piece into the legend of Santa- without these tie ins, he is just a guy on the beach.  Benny does so with hidden elements that the buyer will be able to discover and enjoy.

Benny is available for purchase.  Please click on his photo to see more photos and description.
