Winter's Journey

I know I keep calling almost every piece my favorite but here is where you'll find the truth... of my more whimsical pieces... Benny (part of the beach series) is the hands down winner in my heart.  In fact, he is one I miss daily and wish I still had here with me- but when it comes to the smaller pieces and the more elegant, William here is the owner of my heart.

He was completed and purchased by my Aunt (who owns Uncle Louie, another beach piece) for donation to a charity raffle.  William brought rave reviews from the ticket buyers and tears of joy from the lady who won him.

Standing 14" tall, this piece was created using a wood and wire composite armature.  The armature was then carefully padded and needle sculpted for realistic contours and carefully posed.

Standing on a dark wood base with an antique looking rocking reindeer and vintage look ABC blocks,  William leans on his staff and hefts his velvet sack to his shoulder (which is brimming with toys of course!)

He is a fairly simple piece when it comes to scene and story but the use of high quality faux furs and luscious fabrics take the place of a busy scene- and regardless of his dress or props,  it is the face and expression on this guy that win the day.

Angora Mohair was used strand by strand to create his gleaming and gull beard and hair.   He wears an ivy wreath beneath his fur lined hooded cloak.

English roses were used to compliment the fabric and the glass bead on his Victorian staff.

The tapestry fabric is shot through with gold thread and a lovely pinecone and blue spruce pattern- computers don't seem to ever do the colors justice but these are rich and blend beautifully.

I am so glad William found a loving home and in true Santa form, helped children along the way.  Thanks to Christamore in Indianapolis, IN for their continuing efforts!
